Aldi Review: Chef's Cupboard Chunky Soups

This review of the Chef's Cupboard Chunky Soups from Aldi is going to be another one of those reviews that's really easy to write...

Chef's Cupboard Chunky Soups

I know what you're wondering - you want to know if it's as good as Campbell's Chunky Soup.

Chef's Cupboard Chunky Soups

Yes, yes it is.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out they came off the very same assembly line. Are the recipes the same; do they taste the same as Campbell's? Well, no, not exactly, but every variety I've tried has been a good, solid version of a Chunky-style canned soup. It does what I want soup to do - it warms me up on a cool day, it's tasty, and it's filling without leaving me feeling heavy and sluggish.

If you like Chunky soup, the Chef's Cupboard soups are definitely worth giving a try. They work for me!

  1. I tried one of the chunky soups at Aldi's a number of years ago and I have to say I did not like it as well as I liked the Campbell's Chunky. I avoided buying it ever since. I have to say that now, I tend not to buy canned chunky soup, but keep a tiny bit around for when I am sick and can't make my own soup because of the sodium content. Otherwise, I might give the Aldi's brand another try.

  2. I'll certainly agree that there's NOTHING in this world better than a good homemade soup! I used to make my own when I had more time to devote to cooking, but these days I'm just too busy, so canned soup it is!

If you haven't had any of the soups lately, I'd say give them another try when you get the chance. One of the things that impresses me most about Aldi is how much better the products are now as compared to even just a short time ago. I think they're serious about competing with the national brands, and they're stepping up their game.

  3. Great article! The next time I go to Aldi, there will be some soup in the cart. It would go nicely in the van on a camping trek. Cold December weather, hot soup, maybe a cup of hot cider, a good book, and lots of snow. Sounds like heaven on earth. I'll let you know how I like the soup. Thanks for a great idea!

  4. Aldi Chef Cupboard soups are made by Heinz. There are a few store brands that I know of (Aldi, Kroger, Safeway) that are all the same Heinz soup with different labels. :)

  5. I'm having the Aldi Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar and Bacon Bits soup right now and it's great. I think it's as good, if not better, than the national brands. Try it!

  6. Wrong... They are definitely NOT made by Heinz.

  7. The Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar and Bacon Bits is delicious. It is filling, and tastes much better than I expected. I prefer it to Campbells Chunky Soups. The Italian Wedding Soup is also quite good.

    1. I agree! But, sad to say I've never had the beer from Aldi - grocery stores can't sell beer in my state. 8^(

The next time I'm traveling and find an Aldi that stocks it, you can bet I'll be giving it a try. I might even have to try more than one!

  10. I LOVED this soup! I have tried them all. Have diverticular disease so basically live off it. Had all women at my new office loving it too! Now, The NEW RECIPE IS AWFUL. WHY WOULD YOU FIX IT IF IT WASN'T BROKEN. I HATE THE NEW RECIPE. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!

  13. I believe Aldi Chef's Cupboard soups are private labeled for Aldi by Bay Valley Foods.

  14. Definitely not a fan of these soups, a bit salty, I prefer Progresso, they are the best in my opinion.

  15. Chef's Cupboard - at one time was pretty good. Now, not the case. The Italian-Style Wedding Soup with Meatballs and Chicken shows lots of pasta balls on the can - but not one in the soup. Not one. Looks like they hired a new cook who can't read... Their Customer service contact number is not on the can - I had to look it up on the Internet. I called the number and left two messages - no one was home - and no returned call. The two cases of unopened soup goes back to ALDI - and you can't call them either.

  16. Ok - I just tried calling them again - after weeks of leaving messages - still no one home, but she says that she will call back. Here is the number 702-672-3280 - maybe you will have better luck - but I doubt it. Just one more example of a company that lowered their standards and one that does not seem to mind losing Customers.
