Aldi Review: Kitchen Living Digital Kitchen Scale

Do you use a digital scale? Have you been meaning to try one? Do you do a lot of baking, or have special dietary needs? Do you sell on eBay, or need a way to weigh envelopes and light packages for mailing?

Kitchen scales seem to be getting a lot of buzz these days - in fact, the New York Times had an interesting article in the "Dining" section just this morning about the benefits of using a digital kitchen scale.

I've been thinking of getting one for a while now, so when I saw the Kitchen Living Digital Kitchen Scale, for only $9.99 in Aldi's sales flyer this week, I thought I'd go ahead and give it a shot!

I bought the rectangular black model, but the round, white one (as pictured in the sales flyer and online) was available as well. The black one will coordinate better in my kitchen, and I think the rectangular shape will be easier for me to store. As far as I could tell from the packaging, the scales are the same, just shaped differently. Check your store to see which models they have in stock.

The scale comes with a brief instruction booklet and the battery is already installed. It has a capacity of up to 11 pounds, and measures in increments of 0.1 ounces. Weights can be displayed as either pounds and ounces, or grams if you need to use metric measurements.

There's also a function to display the weight of liquids - water or milk - in milliliters or fluid ounces. VERY useful when baking!

There is also a tare function, which is a must if you need to weigh foods or other objects in a bowl or container. Just place the empty bowl on the scale, press the On/Off/Tare button again, and the scale will read "zero". Place the item in the bowl, and the display will give you the correct weight of just the item.

If you need to add additional ingredients to the bowl (like in baking, for instance), just press the On/Off/Tare button again to reset the display to zero, and then add the next item. Simple!

Overall, the unit looks like it's well made. I especially like the one-piece glass top which should be easy to keep clean. The scale measures about 6" by 8.5" and is only a half inch thick.

If you're in the market for a digital kitchen scale, or have been wanting to try one with out shelling out a lot of cash, head on down to Aldi and pick one of these up. I'm very happy with it - and especially at the price!

I ALMOST bought a similar scale just yesterday, for about $30. Glad I waited!

  3. I bought two of these P.O.S's and both failed within two weeks. I called the company and they never even sent me the replacements they promised. A total piece of useless junk!

    1. Wow, Jerry - I guess I had much better luck with mine. Both of the scales that I bought way back in 2011 are still going strong!

Remember, one of the best things about shopping at ALDI is their double-money back guarantee. I never hesitate to return anything I'm not happy with, and ALDI has never failed to refund my money AND offer me a replacement!

  4. I've had mine for years and love it. I mostly use it for mailing/shipping. It has never failed me. I love Aldi and have shopped there since the mid 90s.
