Independence Day 2012

It's July 4th, 2012 - and I hope you're able to enjoy the national holiday with family and friends, or however else you choose to spend the day!

After a rainy night and cloudy morning, it's shaping up to be a gloriously beautiful day. It's hot and humid of course, but what do you expect? It's July!

No matter. I'll be spending plenty of time outdoors anyway, manning the barbecue and smoker. I've already started the pork ribs, and I'll be fixing some stuffed jalepeƱo peppers here a little later this afternoon. I've already boiled the eggs for my deviled eggs, and they're cooling in a pan of ice while I write this. We'll definitely be well-fed today!

A few things caught my eye in the ALDI flyer this week. I need a garlic press, and at only $1.99, I'm willing to give this one a try...
Kitchen Living Kitchen Gadgets

It's one of several Kitchen Living gadgets ALDI is offering this week - if you've been meaning to pick up a new ice cream scoop, melon baller, citrus zester, veggie peeler or apple corer, this might be the week to do it! If you do, let me know what you think - I'll review the garlic press as soon as I get a chance to use it a couple of times.

I'm also tempted to pick up this Kitchen Living Mandolin Slicer...

I've been wanting one of these for years, but even the inexpensive ones I've found run 15 to 20 dollars! At only 5 bucks, I feel a little more comfortable giving this one a try.

I'll definitely be picking up the Carlini Olive Oil Cooking Spray. I only cook in olive or coconut oil anymore, so I'm glad to find this at ALDI for only $1.79!

As always, remember that item selection and price may vary from store to store - the price you pay may be different than what I post here.

Anyway, enough of my gabbin', I've got cooking to get back to! I hope you have a Happy and SAFE Fourth of July - try to stay cool!

  1. Hi Jeff,

Thanks for posting about the kitchen gadgets. I definitely want to pick up one of those slicers... That would come in handy!

The Carlini olive oil spray works great. I carry some in the van to use with the egg substitute to keep it from sticking. The name brand stuff is so expensive but the Carlini spray is a real bargain.

Have a fun cookout! Happy Independence Day!

  3. Jeff, I just stumbled upon your blog this morning. I started shopping at Aldi's about a year and a half ago, when we had our son. I love the store and have yet to be disappointed with their brands versus national brands. Thanks for the hard work you do wtih this blog!
