Aldi Review: Mama Cozzi's Fire Baked Crust Pepperoni Pizza

If you've gone back and read any of the earlier reviews, you might remember the review I did of the Mama Cozzi's Mega Meat Pizza. I said in that review that I don't buy frozen pizza often, and the review pretty much describes why.

You might wonder then, why I even bothered to review the Mama Cozzi's Fire Baked Crust Pepperoni Pizza. Well, after my recent POSITIVE experience/experiment with the Berryhill Grape Jelly, I thought, "Why not?" it just might be better. I'd been hankerin' for some pepperoni pizza lately anyway, and at the very least, I'd have something to write about on the blog.

I was optimistic that the crust would be better than the last pizza I tried since this one was labeled as having a "Fire Baked Crust" - whatever that means. It's thinner than the "rising-crust" that the last pizza had, but I doubt seriously that it's been anywhere near fire until I slid it into the oven. It is a fairly thin crust, and I'll give it some credit - it came out of the oven crispy and did taste better than most frozen pizza crusts. It tasted A LOT better than the rising crust of the Mega Meat pizza. But still - the crust is the worst part of any frozen pizza - always has been, and until some new kind of technology comes along to improve it, I suppose it always will be.

The sauce on this pizza is also much better than the last pizza, though still nowhere near as good as fresh tomato sauce. The cheese is actually VERY good. It's a blend of mozzarella, Fontina, Parmesan, and Romano - and there's plenty of it, with plenty of flavor. There's also quite a bit of pepperoni - no skimping in that department either. The pepperoni is good. Spicy, but not so spicy that I was suffering from heartburn after eating it, and not too greasy.

So, I guess I have to admit, this is a pretty decent frozen pizza. The things that are lacking here are the same things that are lacking on ANY frozen pizza, so I can't really complain too much. After all, I'm comparing this to other frozen pizzas, not a fresh pie from the neighborhood pizzeria down the street

If you buy frozen pizza, I'd say that this one is worth a try, it's certainly better than the last one I bought. If you don't buy frozen pizza, this one won't convince you to change your mind.
