Aldi Review: It's Sunday Afternoon - Time For Football and CHIPS 'N DIP!

I don't know about you, but I find it next to impossible to sit down in front of the TV and watch football without some kind of snack within reach. And today, the "snacks of choice" have been homemade Jalepeno Poppers (let me know if you want the recipe!) and Clancy's Wavy Potato Chips with Friendly Farms French Onion Dip!

Friendly Farms French Onion Dip
Now, I've got to tell you, I'm very particular about my french onion dip - about the only one I really like is the one made by Heluva Good. Don't know what it is exactly, but everything else just tastes wrong to me - and trust me, I've tried just about all of 'em. When I'm craving chips 'n dip, it's got to be Heluva Good French Onion dip, or I just don't buy dip.

That is, until now...

I finally summoned up enough courage to try the Friendly Farms French Onion Dip from Aldi - I figured that if I didn't like it, at the very least, it would give me something to write about on the blog. It seems like there haven't been that many items from Aldi I've disliked lately, and if I hated this dip, it would help me balance the "likes vs dislikes" a little.

Well, that's not going to happen, because I like this dip. A lot. It's really very good! It tastes very similar to the Heluva Good dip that's been my long-time favorite. It's just ever-so-slightly a little more tart, but the smooth-textured consistency is almost identical, and the onion flavor is practically a dead-ringer for my (former) favorite.

But the best part of all is the price! No surprises here, the Friendly Farms dip is less than HALF the cost of the dip I used to buy. I paid only $1.09 for a 16oz container! Prices do vary of course, but I've paid more than two dollars for a 12 ounce container of the other stuff. That's QUITE a difference - Aldi saves me money yet again.

Clancy's Wavy Potato Chips
The Clancy's Wavy Potato Chips are a hit as well. They're sturdy enough to stand up to the dippin' and scoopin', they're salty enough without being too salty, and they actually taste like potato. I don't think they're any greasier than any other typical potato chip out there, and certainly less greasy than the kettle-cooked type chips that are increasingly popular these days.
And again, the price! An 11 ounce bag was priced at $1.39 - you're going to pay WAY more than that for a measly little 7 ounce bag of Lay's, Herr's or Utz chips.

Like I wrote a couple of days ago about the canned goods at Aldi - why do people insist on paying MORE than they have to for this stuff? I just don't get it!

  1. I can't wait to try this dip. It seems like Dad is always having me stop at Aldi's 'cause he LOVES the wsvy chips. I love dip. I'm looking forward to trying this one.

Thanks for posting another great review. I love your writing style - no nonsense - and the voice in you work. It's as fun to read as is useful. Take care!
