Appleton Farms Pulled Pork In Smokey Barbecue Sauce |
Luckily, I went to Aldi this morning and while there, picked up a package of the Appleton Farms Pulled Pork in Barbecue Sauce, and a bag of the frozen Bremer Four Cheese Fettuccine. This would be the perfect opportunity to try them out. The pulled pork only needed to be heated on the stove or in the microwave, and the fettuccine needed about 10 to 12 minutes in a large skillet.

"Great", I thought - I'll just heat up a can of vegetables to go with it, and have dinner on the table inside of 15 minutes, tops!
Everything cooked up easily following the package directions and was on the table as planned.
But unfortunately, the results were nothing to cheer about. The pulled pork was just okay, but certainly won't be winning any awards at the next BBQ cook-off. It reminded me of the stuff you would get at some fast-food place. Very processed, very generic, not at all satisfying. The sauce was bland, but inoffensive. It was quick and easy to prepare, but that's all it has going for it. There's really no reason to buy this again.
And I'm afraid the fettuccine was even worse - it was bland, bland, bland! The pasta turned out mushy and the sauce had no discernible cheese flavor at all. I tried pepping it up with some fresh-ground black pepper and grated Parmesan cheese, but there was no saving this dish. I would have been much better off boiling some dried fettuccine pasta and mixing in the Priano Alfredo Sauce - that sauce is actually quite good. Doing that wouldn't have taken any more time, and it would have been cheaper to make. The Bremer Four Cheese Fettuccine is NOT a good value!
Oh well, I tried something new, and it didn't work out. I may have wasted my money, but now you won't have to!
Bottom line is, neither of these products from Aldi is worthy of being on your shopping list. In the future, they certainly won't be on mine.
