Aldi Review: Choceur Christmas Chocolates

So, did you survive Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday? We did just fine here by avoiding the shopping frenzy entirely! We had a lovely Thanksgiving meal - and I believe everything came from Aldi with the exception of the soft drinks and the fresh apples for the homemade pie. We have an apple orchard nearby, so it just made sense to get our apples there. The meal was fabulous, and naturally, we're still working our way through the leftovers!

But, Christmas is just around the corner, so we have no time to lose in preparing for THAT big occasion. I'm sure you've seen the little Choceur Christmas Chocolates at Aldi and have been wondering if they're any good...

Choceur Mini Bag Of Chocolates

Well, in the interest of research (and the fact that I'm an admitted chocoholic), I picked up a bag today, and dug right in. I got the bag of little tree ornaments pictured above, and they also had them in the shape of little bears, Santas, and maybe some others as well.

Fear not, dear reader, these German-made milk chocolates are every bit as good as the large Choceur bars that I'm so fond of and have written about before. I'll get another couple of bags to decorate the tree with, and my daughter and I can spend the holiday season sneaking chocolates off the tree when mommy's not looking - good fun!

As I've said before, chocolates are one of things that Aldi does best - these little guys are no exception. Get them while you can find them - I bet they sell out!

  1. I have to say that my shopping habits have continued to evolve because of your blog! I LOVE ALDI! Their chocolate is much better than the Hersheys or even Dove that I've purchased in the past. Their Applewood Bacon is out of this world! Try it some time.
Sadly, they are discontinuing their face makeup--the only brand that my daughter doesn't have a reaction to. We purchased the last of it at one store, then went to another to purchase the last of theirs, too.
Thanks for your posts-keep on shopping Aldi.

  2. Thanks so much Sharon! I'm glad you're finding information you can use.
I'm surprised they're discontinuing the makeup - I had read earlier this year where it was very highly rated among the women who had tried it - I wonder what's up? But glad you were able to stock up a bit - I've been known to hit a couple of different stores myself in search of items in short supply, I know how it is.
It ain't always easy being an Aldi shopper - but we do what we must! Stay in touch - Jeff

  3. Jeff, I will be at Aldi's tomorrow to buy chocolate. I have a little blackberry wine left and it goes great with chocolate. Thanks for the review! YUM!

As for Sharon's comment about the Applewood Bacon - it sounds delicious. There is a lot of mediocre bacon out there with big names on the package. I can't wait to see how Aldi's stacks up.

  4. The ONLY chocolate product I've ever bought at Aldi that I didn't care for was a bag of chocolate-covered peanuts. Everything else has been excellent.
And I've been totally happy with the bacon as well - let me know what you think!

  5. I couldn't find the Christmas ornaments but did buy Dad and I each a Choceur milk chocolate and hazlenut bar. At 99 cents it is a bargain. The flavor and texture of the nuts earned a solid "A" in my book. I LOVE the Aldi Austrian chocolates!

We also had the Appleton Select Bacon and I would say that for the great taste and excellent value it is a good buy. The cats LOVED it, too!

I had the Mama Cozzi 16" deluxe refrigerated pizza. It was okay but just a little above average for my taste and pretty mild. However, if a person added some garlic or red pepper flakes, it would flavor this pizza up a lot. It is also a great buy and much better others stores' frozen pizzas or take-n-bakes. It's well worth $6.99.

Jeff, you've got me hooked on Aldi's now. :)

  6. Sorry you couldn't find the chocolate ornaments Brad. As far as I can tell, they're the same chocolate as in the bars.
I've thought the same as you about the pizza - it's fine, and a reasonably good value, but you do need to doctor it up a bit. That's okay, I do that to any pizza I buy anyway...!
